Melvin Seek, MD, has been treating patients with kidney disease in north-central Florida for over 30 years. He earned his medical degree in Missouri and performed his residencies at the University of North Carolina, Department of Medicine at Chapel Hill. Dr. Seek then completed his board certifications in internal medicine, nephrology and critical care medicine. In 2000, the National Kidney Association of Florida honored Dr. Seek with the Exemplary Practice Award for his contributions to his patients and to his community. He currently serves as the medical director for the five-star rated DaVita Home Division Dialysis Center in Ocala.
Dr. Seek believes every patient with late-stage kidney disease should be given a chance for pre-emptive transplant, or home dialysis managed by an experienced team of experts. Hence, the majority of his dialysis patients are on a home modality. He believes chronic kidney disease care should also be managed collaboratively by a team focused on prevention of disease progression while pursuing highest quality of life for the patient and avoiding hospitalization.
He is devoted to his community and has held leadership positions with area hospitals and several non-profit organizations. Dr. Seek and his wife have been instrumental in opening the Faithfully Guided Health Center devoted to wellness and lifestyle medicine. Additionally, Dr. Seek and his wife participated several times in Tour DaVita, a 200-mile bike ride that raises awareness for kidney disease.
When not practicing medicine, he enjoys spending time with family, biking, and Beniah, his golden retriever.
